We are looking for a leader to help design best of class software with state of the art graphic interfaces for our quickly growing software company.
We are looking for a Software Designer to help us design the next generation of powerful SQL Server developer tools at ApexSQL.
Our applications aren't simple - in fact, they are incredibly feature rich and powerful. This creates the challenge of exposing these features through elegant, streamlined and easy to use interfaces. You will need to understand windows design concepts and the latest UI standards driven by Microsoft applications like Office2003 and Whidbey; including customizable toolbars, docking panels and more.
You will work in the development process from the very beginning developing screen shots and functional specs, throughout development (iterative design) and finally assist in testing the new features.
You will work with everyone - from technical support, to QA, to individual developers, to the president of the company and be part of the fulcrum around which our company's development efforts revolve. You will work closely with Brian Lockwood, designer of CIO Magazines Enterprise Value Award winning application as well as most of our successful commercial SQL developer applications.
You won't get bored. ApexSQL runs at an incredibly rapid pace in an environment where delays and obstacles are not common. If you enjoy seeing your designs rapidly brought to fruition you won't be disappointed.
What you will do

Design elegant and streamlined visual presentations of the functionality contained in new versions of our software, including screen shots, behaviors and events

Collect feedback from customers, developers, testers and the support team and quickly convert them to detailed specifications that can be given to our development team

Provide a large volume of highly detailed use cases, some of which may be converted to test cases

Create innovative and paradigm changing ideas for new features that allows us to continue to lead the industry rather than follow

Assist with creating marketing materials, videos, and other presentations that fully capture the essence of new features and programs

Mock up dummy screen shots, both .NET Win Forms for Windows apps HTML web pages for web apps and internal web based systems

Design use cases and occasionally work with QA staff to assist in creating test cases

Interact with help file author to facilitate documentation of new features

Interact with sales staff to allow them to anticipate and pre-sell new features that will be released

Interact with support staff to alert them to new features they will need to learn and support.

We are looking for someone interested in working in the "white hot" Microsoft SQL Server space as a high profile evangelist for our powerful, feature extending SQL developer tools. We say that ApexSQL tools unleash the full potential of SQL Server and after working with our new and soon to be released future generation of tools you will soon understand why. Your goal is to make others understand as well!
We are passionate about our software and this passion is contagious. After a rigorous training program where you will learn about all of our many software tools you will have an opportunity to infect others with the powerful concept of an integrated suite of best of class SQL developer tools. Your influence will be spread over the phone, through email, at trade shows and in direct customer visits all over the U.S., Canada and Europe. You will be an active participant in our blog, developer forums, and user groups.
You will be part of our "Sales Swat Team" called in to demo our tools on site for days at a time if needed until you have created a new customer. You will double as inbound sales and should also be able to prospect and cover technical support if either ends of the sales team needs assistance.
